Tenor Brenden Gunnell, will perform a recital of songs by Mahler, Britten, and Rachmanoff as part of the University of New Orleans Musical Excursions Series, accompanied by pianist Hendrik Heilman. Brenden s a young American “Heldentenor”, appearing in leading roles for the major opera houses and concert halls of Europe. Upcoming operatic roles include Siegmund in the new Göteborg Opera Ring Cycle of Die Walküre(appearing in 2018 as Loge in Das Rheingold), Jimmy Mahoney in The Rise and Fall of Mahagonnyfor Opera Parma in Italy, and the title role of Oedipus Rexwith the Elb Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Alan Gilbert. He most recently appeared as the Prince in Dvorak’s Rusalka(2019) for the Glyndebourne festival. In recital, he specializes in the songs of Mahler, Britten, Schubert, and Strauss. In 2017 Brenden made his US Recital debut in New Orleans, with a memorable performance of Schubert’s Die Winterreise for which he received the award or the Best Chamber Music Performance in the 2018 Tribute to the Classical Arts.
